Cefalu

Many people adore Cefalù's sandy beach, stretching alongside the town with amazingly hot weather. It is very beautiful, but you should be prepared as the beaches are extremely crowded during summer time. Cefalù's most valued tourist attraction is the town's Duomo, an attractive two-towered Norman cathedral. Begun in 1131, this enormous church dominates the town's rooftops. In town visitors can enjoy the picturesque harbour, beautiful alleys and medieval buildings. The Lavatoio is a sight worth seeing, as is the medieval Osterio Magno, the remainings of a large 13th-century palace. Around Cefalù, there are many places of interest such as; the ruins of Greek Himera, the Sanctuary of Gibilmanna, and a hillside pilgrimage destination, and the Monti Madonie Mountains, where holiday-makers will be able to ski in winter and would enjoy a good hiking in spring and autumn. Palermo is only 1 hour away by train, and the volcanic Aeolian Islands (including Volcano) can be easily reached by hydrofoil in the summer.
