Grande Oporto Oporto or Porto is Portugal's second largest city after Lisbon and the city has plenty to offer to the visitor.
Oporto is a bustling city mainly known for its exquisite wine and trading centre.
The coast of Oporto has well known holiday resorts like Espinho or Matosinho and Vila Nova de Gaia where and the fishing town of Povoa de Varzim. The coastal town of Vila Nova de Gaia, right across the Douro River, is famous for the production of Oporto wine and visitors interested in the Oporto wine are recommended to visit the wine lodges and wineries where tourists are given a tour (normally free) of the winemaking facilities.
From Vila Nova de Gaia you can also take a river cruise along the Douro River and admire the wonderful and breathtaking landscape.
In the city of Oporto, the major attractions are the Gothic churgh of Sao Francisco, the 12th century cathedral and the famous iron bridge Ponto de D. Luis. If you are after good seafood restaurants go to Ribeira do Porto. |

Grande Oporto, Portugal Holiday Review

Upon visiting the Algarve I saw sights never seen by my eyes before. A wealth of beauty accompanied by the personalities of wonderful town locals. Each one as special as the other, from being friendly to helpful, charming to reassuring and a pleasure to be with; they provided us with the most amazing food and sent us off on our exploration of Portugal with fresh grown oranges from their trees. Having never seen an orange tree before, you really appreicate their beauty in the surroundings of a wonderful motel. The prices low, the scenery high, the food exquisite and the company so amazing that you feel part of what is going on in the area makes you feel right at home and able to enjoy what special time you have allocated to this amazing district of Portugal. My recommendations are to visit with high expectations and a willingness to be part of the town for your trip... not just someone on holiday.

Oporto is an absolutely beautiful and ancient city, I thoroughly enjoyed every minute. It’s less commercialised than the rest of the Algarve, so perfect for those who want some peace and quiet.

Oporto, Grande Oporto, Portugal Holiday Review - Nice Resort But Not For Me.

Oporto is for the older generation, now I like Portugal but Oporto was to dull for me. I’m also not into ancient history or old buildings etc but it is a nice place though, just not for me. I can't knock the place, there are a lot of things to discover and people who enjoy adventures will love Oporto with out a doubt. But I will stick to the Algarve next time though as I’ve been going there for the past few years and it’s in my comfort zone. I do recommend Oporto for sure.
