Its volcanic origin offers different sceneries and beaches to enjoy while you get tan. Canico is the quietest option for a holiday in Madeira and is suited for those who appreciate the rural beauty. The town centre has a varied offer of restaurants and shops and a pretty Baroque church situated at the centre of the old town. Canico de Baixo resort lies two kilometres down the hillside offering a spectacular beach promenade along its fantastic rocky beach in addition to a good number of bars and restaurants.

Canico, Madeira, Portugal Holiday Review - traditionally nice

The thing I liked about Canico was that it had a great traditional look and feel to it unlike a lot of the other resorts which have become completely commercialised. From the beach you can enjoy the endless views out into the Atlantic and further in you can walk around the town and admire the historical buildings. Canico also has a couple of nice golf course where you can try your hand at a few rounds of Golf. Although these are plenty of activities to do in Canico it is really most suited for people looking for a relaxing holiday.

Canico, Madeira, Portugal Holiday Review

Canico is not my ideal choice of holiday but my boyfriend booked the holiday as a suprise. Canico wasn't lively enough and the hotel was miles away from the beach and the pool area was to small and cramped. Canico is not a bad place, I would not say it's a dull resort, if the hotel was closer to the coast and the resort was more livelier then it would of been ok... You do have a choice of restaurants, bars and clubs but there mainly in the centre of Canico and its a taxi drive to get there so that put me off. I enjoy a package holiday with a hotel very close to the beach and a view of the island from my hotel window, and also restaurants, pubs and clubs at your finger tips.
