Funchal Funchal is the capital city of the Portuguese island of Madeira. It's a modern city with an ideal location with the sea in one side and gentle slopes protecting the harbour and forming a natural amphitheatre. The cultural offer is great with monuments like the Cathedral and interesting museums like the Sacred Art museum or the Quita das Cruces. Funchal is a great base to explore the outstanding landscapes of the island and its charming villages. The activities you can practice in the island are uncountable. The city boasts a great variety of restaurants, you can try local delightful gastronomy but also international cuisine if you prefer. Nightlife is also great.

Funchal, Madeira, Portugal Holiday Review - Charming hotel, great staff

Just returned from a delightful 2 week break at the Tivoli Ocean Park. I could not fault this hotel in any way, staff were friendly and facilities exceptional. It’s located on the sea front on a bit of a slope and Funchal 'centre' is about a 40minute walk away, this may bother some but I quite enjoy the walk. The only negative was the noise; they’re doing construction either side of the hotel at the mo and it starts at 8am.

Me and my boyfriend stayed in the Madeira Palacio hotel overlooking the sea, the view was out of this world. The pool area was also beautiful with palm tree's all round and a small bar too. We wasn't far from Funchal's centre which was brilliant as I enjoy browsing round the capital and viewing the amazing buildings and culture. I enjoyed every minute of my stay in Funchal and would love to return with my family someday.
