How you travel and what you do on your travels are just as important as the destination you are travelling to these days.

Travelling responsibly is not just about taking the necessary precautions in terms of visas, insurance and vaccinations of course these are important but, it is also important to preserve the environment and help the local communities in the places you travel to.

The Environment - You can help the environment a great deal by doing the most basic things like not throwing away plastic bags, burning toilet paper and using bio-degradable soap etc. The ultimate goal is to reduce your carbon footprint so please consider making a donation to offset the carbon emissions you are responsible for when booking your adventure holidays.

Help Local Business - When choosing somewhere to stay for your adventure holidays, choose a local hotel or hostel so that money can be pumped into the local community rather than going to a multinational hotel chain abroad. By buying locally produced food you will not only help the local people, it will also give you the opportunity to try a wider variety of tasty food.

Respecting The Locals - It is easy sometimes to take the smallest things for granted, some of the places you may visit maybe be really poor so try to avoid displaying signs of wealth like jewellery and watches. Be aware of the local community and dress appropriately to show your respect for the culture and tradition.

Responsible travel shouldn't end with adventure holidays it should be a continuous process of thinking about how you can help once you are back from your travels. This can take many forms; you may choose to find out about a local charity that works in the destination you have just visited and support them. You can help a great deal just by spreading the word to friends and family would help educate and increase awareness.
