and frequent hovercraft service between Southsea (Portsmouth)
and Ryde on the Isle of Wight.
Departures are every 30 minutes and the
crossing time just 10 minutes - making it the fastest way
to cross the Solent. Hovertravel staff are on hand to assist
with luggage, and all seats are bookable in advance. Car
parking is available directly opposite both the Ryde and
Southsea terminal. |

offering up to ten return crossings a day from mid-October.
The service, which started in May 2000, concentrates on
the needs of motorists and is dedicated to cars, cars and
caravans or trailers, motor-homes and motor-cycles. Standard
five-day return prices for a car plus five start from £119
and special offers are regularly available. |

Wightlink is the largest ferry operator
to the Isle of Wight, operating round the clock, 365 days
of the year and offers a choice of three routes across The
Solent. The largest car ferries operate between Portsmouth
and Fishbourne on the east of the Island. A second, car
ferry route operates between Lymington in the New Forest
area and Yarmouth on the west side of the island. Both car
ferry journeys take around 35 minutes, with sailings every
half an hour throughout most of the day. A FastCat service
for foot passengers only, operates between Portsmouth Harbour
and Ryde Pier Head and takes just 15 minutes. Sailings are
every half an hour at peak times. |
