The Bahamas is all about the beaches and the water sports and relaxation. Named after the Spanish baja mar, meaning 'shallow sea', the Bahamas is blessed with the warmest and clearest turquoise waters that you could ever find which are home to ancient shipwrecks and a rainbow of coral reefs teeming with beautiful and colorful fish.

Then you have to see the pale pink sands of Harbour Island which are simply a sight to behold, while the powder-fine alabaster beaches of Paradise Island are home to soaring seabirds and gently aging palms.

Nassau
Nassau is the capital of the Bahamas which offers the great 18th-century forts and pastel-coloured Georgian. For more fascinating history and culture, check out the Pompey Museum and its fine collection of island artifacts and exhibits.

Long Island
Long Island is an expansive, soft, stretch of sand, as its name suggests. Long Island is almost 130km (80 miles) in length.

While in the Bahamas, you can also explore the famous Columbus' landing spot. While there you have to stand in the Columbus' first 'New World' landing place situated near Cockburn Town on San Salvador. This place is simply breath taking and it was a home to 40,000 Lucayans at the time of his 15th-century arrival and now a prime scuba-diving spot.

If you wish to explore the Bahamas further then head to one of the islands' busiest markets to haggle over spices, ceramics, handicrafts and even local art.

For the sporty visitors there is diving excursions, snorkeling, windsurfing and parasailing or to stay away from the beach you can try some of the world-class golf courses with ocean-facing holes.

Bahamian Nightlife

The Bahamas is a place for relaxation so if you are after partying and boozing then maybe this is not the place for you. Here you will find the most amazing beaches and scenery that you wouldn't want to do anything but explore the area or relax on the white hot sand.

Nevertheless there are quite a few bars and clubs for those who still wish to have the best of both worlds.

Bahamian bars and clubs pulsate with island rhythms and dance music to make the soul relax, from pumping goombay and calypso to Junkanoo beats you will be dancing all night long until you can't stand up.

During daytime you can also discover riotous dance festivals that mix African slave-trade rituals with Bahamian tempo and American hip-hop twists.
