The capital of the island is Santa Cruz de Tenerife and it is an upbeat town geared especially for tourism. Its port, where once the first shots of the Spanish Civil War were fired, is today a morass of ferries, jetfoils and freighters.

Santa Cruz boasts great hotels and villa apartments for all needs and tastes. The best resorts are to be found around the coastline where all the entertainment tends to be.  This is a lively resort so if you are after a more quiet and peaceful time with the family or partner simply go to the following resorts in Tenerife;  Playa Paraiso, Playa De Fanabe, Los Gigantes, Playa De La Arena.

Things to do in Tenerife

The volcanic nature of the island of Tenerife means that the land has few natural beaches. Those that exist are characterised by black shingle stretches created from the island's volcanic rock foundations. The demand for tourist sun-bathing space, however, has led to the creation of resorts and man-made beaches which are also fantastic. All are made of white clean sand and blue flags. The beaches are so well looked after that you will feel like you are in paradise.

Masca
For scenery a visit to the northwest tip of the island of Tenerife, around the picturesque village of Masca, is hard to beat. The village is set in the Teno Mountains, clinging to the slopes of a deep green ravine beside a narrow road.

Pirámides de Güímar
On the east coast of Tenerife, south of Santa Cruz, stand six mysterious step pyramids of which archaeologists have yet to discern the origin. The pyramids were initially thought to be just remains of agricultural stone terraces, or random piles of stone.

Teide National Park
The Parque Nacional de las Canadas del Teide was declared a protected area in 1954 and has become recognised as offering one of the most spectacular landscapes of the world, including an enormous volcanic crater with a circumference of 30 miles (48km).

Food in Tenerife

An important cultural facet that many of you that do visit Tenerife don't get to experience is the island's delicious cuisine. However, all it takes is getting away from the touristy resorts  and away from the fast food restaurants to discover Tenerife's astronomical treasure chest of food, beautiful wine and yummy desserts.

Traditional Tenerife food dishes tend to be made from scratch and, while rather simple, they are fool with flavour. Be sure to try the famous "papas arrugadas," a favourite Tenerife food, it means "wrinkled potatoes,".

Best advice for places to eat is to look for locals - eat where the locals eat. That way you are certain to get great quality of food.

Nightlife in Tenerife

Tenerife is absolutely great when it comes to nightlife, bars and clubs and loud music till the early morning. Are you a party animal? Then you will definitely be enjoying your time in Tenerife.
